The artist Gego studied architecture and engineering at the TH Stuttgart (Institute of Technology) from 1932 to 1938, before she was forced to emigrate to Venezuela because of her Jewish roots. Today, Gego is one of the best-known artists in Latin America. Conceptual as well as practical considerations of architecture and space-forming processes have always remained at the heart of her artistic exploration. Her method of design has been influenced, above all, by material, technical, aesthetic, and urbanistic questions. This book is published in conjunction with the exhibition Gego. The Architecture of an Artist, which presents a permanent loan of 100 works from the Fundación Gego at the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart with a special focus on the artist’s graphic work.
